AEGIS ANNOUNCES THE COMPLETION OF ITS RURAL UTILITIES SERVICE DISTANCE LEARNING & TELEMEDICINE PROJECT

3/9/2005 - Canoga Park, California - Udi Barkai, President & C.E.O. of Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. is proud to announce the completion of the RUS Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Project. The new infrastructure is the most advanced among Narcotic Treatment Programs (NTP’s) in the nation, and it allows thousands of Aegis patients daily access to the highest standard of care, despite their distance from large metropolitan areas. The project extended over a five-year period, with a total budget of $1,000,000. $348,000 of total budget was subsidized by the Department of Agriculture through the RUS / DLT Grant. The project resulted in the development and implementation of the following:

  • LAN/WAN network between the system’s hubs and remote locations, utilizing VPN technology, and firewalls, fully compliant with new HIPAA Regulations. The LAN/WAN is now sustaining terminal services, video conferencing, video streaming, online library of scientific, clinical and training materials (including government publications) and supports the day-to-day operations of the clinics.
  • Data Management Software, which allows Aegis staff members, physicians in particular, to share critical patient information and “know how” in real time. Securing the highest standards of patient care in the most remote and underserved locations. It also allows for the increased productivity of staff members, and efficient utilization of corporate resources, which is extremely valuable in light of the State of California’s budget crunch, and decreased reimbursement rates.
  • Web Resource Sites, through the RUS / DLT Project, Aegis has also developed a network of websites, which provides access to a wide range of resources to Aegis patients and their families, the local judicial and correctional systems, medical establishment, government agencies, and the general public in the communities that Aegis is serving. It further supports the websites of the Aegis Ombudsman, the Aegis Patient Advisory and Advocacy Group (PAAG), the patients’ “Keys To Recovery” support groups, and the recently developed Aegis University website (www.aegisuniversity.com).
