AEGIS RECOGNIZES P.A.A.G. BOARD MEMBERS

2/16/2006 - Canoga Park, California - Supporters of the Patient Advisory and Advocacy Group (“P.A.A.G.”) turned out at the Aegis corporate office on Thursday, February 16th, 2006, for an event recognizing the PAAG board members. The board members were presented with a plaque by Udi Barkai, President and C.E.O., as well as a Certificate of Achievement from Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, in recognition and appreciation of their outstanding contribution and commitment to the Patient Advisory and Advocacy Group, as well as for their involvement in the Keys To Recovery Program.

Udi Barkai stated, “Of all our achievements at Aegis, I consider the development of P.A.A.G. and the building of a “partnership” between clinicians, other staff members and patients, as the highest achievement.” He further states, “The P.A.A.G. were instrumental in providing insight to our clinicians regarding the recovering addicts’ cultural preferences and understanding their problems. At the same time, it also provided our patients with necessary transparency and better understanding of our decision and policy making process.”

For the last few years, P.A.A.G. members have been observing in the development of new policies, protocols and procedures at Aegis. Pete Petit, Director of Quality Assurance and Licensing stated, “The development of the P.A.A.G. is in line with recommendations of the CARF accreditation guidelines, as well as an important component in the Aegis Accessibility Plan.”

Steve Maulhardt, Vice President, also added, “P.A.A.G. members are very affective in promoting new legislation. Patients have a solid standing, better then providers, when they claim their constitutional rights and interests in higher standards of patient care. The P.A.A.G. testimonials in front of the California Senate and Assembly have been successful in the approval of new California Senate Bills 774 and 1785, as well as Assembly Bill 1349.

Steve Day, the P.A.A.G. chair, along with Ruben Ornelas and Russell Iadanza, board members, have all expressed their appreciation for the opportunity given to them and the other P.A.A.G. members in working closely with clinicians, and directly affecting the quality of the treatment which is given to all Aegis patients.
