AEGIS INSTITUTE, INC. PROUDLY ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF AN OUTPATIENT DRUG-FREE (“ODF”) PROGRAM IN BAKERSFIELD, CA
3/20/2006 - Canoga Park, California - Udi Barkai, President and CEO, is proud to announce the opening of an Outpatient Drug-Free (“ODF”) program in Bakersfield, California in March 2006. The new program is located at 501 West Columbus Street, and is sharing a 4,000 sq. ft. facility with a six year old Aegis Institute PC1000 program.
Becky Heinicke, Director of Caseload Management and Counseling Services for Aegis Medical Systems, Inc., an affiliate of Aegis Institute, Inc., has welcomed the opening of the new program and stated, “The new program is complimenting and extending the scope of Aegis services to a drug-free environment. From now on, our patients will have a viable option to taper off of methadone and other medications.” She further stated, “The Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. Narcotic Treatment Program (“NTP”) license does not allow us to treat our patients without providing them medication. It effectively prohibits us from providing these patients with any educational, counseling or therapy sessions beyond their last day of dosing.”
The new ODF program was licensed by the State of California’s Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, as well as certified by Medi-Cal (the California equivalent of Medic-Aid), and has obtained a contract with Kern county. Unlike Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. clinics which operate as NTPs, the new ODF program will be providing education, counseling, therapy and support groups for its clients without the assistance of medical staff, or use of medication. The ODF clients will be treated for a large array of conditions and disorders, beginning with addiction to drugs and alcohol, mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, as well as socio-economical conditions such as life, social and coping skills, vocational rehabilitation, eligibility work, etc.
Udi Barkai, President of Aegis Institute, Inc., has stated, “The Aegis scope of treatment and services which comprises of the various Aegis affiliates, including Aegis Medical Systems, Inc., Aegis Institute, Inc., Nationwide Medical Group, Inc., Patient Advisory and Advocacy Group, Keys To Recovery, the Office of the Ombudsman, and the Office of the General Counsel, is providing its patients and clients with a wide scope of services and treatment, thus becoming more sensitive to their personal and cultural preferences. It is an important element of our customer service and the quality of our patient care, and is likely to make our services more accessible to new population of recovering addicts who feel more comfortable with total abstinence principles.”
