AEGIS IS PROUD TO INTRODUCE THE NEW “AEGIS MODEL” FOR MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT

6/5/2006 - Canoga Park, California – Udi Barkai, President and C.E.O., is proud to introduce the new “Aegis Model” for Narcotic Treatment Programs (NTPs). Unlike the traditional methadone clinic, the new model will also be extended to provide specialized services, educational programs, support groups, and social work.

Gene Lichtenstein, Director of Mental Health and Social Services stated, “The scope of services by the new model is better suited for the needs of our patients. Side by side to their recovery from poly-substance abuse, the majority of them are also struggling with common medical conditions, mostly Hepatitis C; emotional disorders such as anxiety, stress and grief; behavioral disorders including anger, attention deficit, and low self-esteem; as well as other socio-economic conditions.”

Dr. Girgis, Chief Medical Director, further summarized, “Medications are very effective and powerful, however, they are not a ‘silver bullet’. Unfortunately, recovery is about change of lifestyle and behavioral modification and cannot be sustained by the traditional limited scope of NTPs.”
