AEGIS ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF A TREATMENT PROTOCOL FOR POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER
9/24/2007 - Canoga Park, California, Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, is pleased to introduce a new policy and protocol for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The policy was developed internally within Aegis, and includes a new screening tool customized for patients of Narcotic Treatment Programs, a training curriculum for Aegis clinical personnel, and a program for the education of patients.
Mr. Hightower stressed the importance of the PTSD Policy due to the large percentage of Aegis patients struggling with PTSD. He stated that, “If the condition is not adequately and professionally treated, it is likely to become a major obstacle in the recovery of our patients. Very commonly, the PTSD develops into a relapse trigger.“
Steve Day, PAAG Chairman, added, “Many patients, including Vietnam veterans like myself, suffer from PTSD. This also includes individuals who have been incarcerated, as well as victims of violence and trauma. I was pleased to learn of Aegis’ new initiative for the treatment of this common condition. It’s about time that something is done about it.”
Susan Landes, Regional Clinical Director, stated, “The treatment of PTSD will be provided by specialists under the supervision of Aegis’ regional clinical directors, following a screening and referral by the patients’ caseload managers. Prior to treatment, patients will be educated on PTSD, as many of them have to overcome significant barriers to treatment such as embarrassment, shame, etc. Patients will also be asked to participate in a weekly support group meetings dedicated to PTSD.” She finished her statement by saying, “I hope this protocol will greatly improve the quality of life for our patients.”
