AEGIS INITIATES FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
10/29/2008 - Canoga Park, California, Udi Barkai, President & C.E.O., is pleased report to Aegis Directors on the initiation of a feasibility study for the development of mental health services. The study will assist Aegis in the development and deployment of mental health Services throughout Aegis’ network of clinics. It will determine whether mental health licenses are to be carried by Aegis Medical Systems, Inc., or its affiliate, Aegis Institute, Inc. (a CA non-profit corporation). Additionally, it will allow Aegis to negotiate contracts with the Departments of Mental and/or Behavioral Health within the fifteen (15) counties that Aegis presently serves.
Ron Alvarado, Controller, stated that, "Aegis is licensed by the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, and is reimbursed through Drug Medi-Cal's (D/MC) limited fee structure. Unfortunately, the majority of Aegis patients are struggling with co-occurring conditions in addition to their recovery from drugs. Unless these other disorders are effectively addressed, patients are not able to complete their successful recovery. The new licenses and contracts would allow Aegis to treat these patients for their dual diagnosed conditions, which include: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; Grief & Loss; Attention Deficit Disorder."
Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, stated that, "We hope that the feasibility study will be completed and that Aegis is able to provide mental health services to its patients within a six-month period." He added that, "Over the last twelve months, we have been preparing for the provision of mental health services through the recruiting of experienced regional clinical directors, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and social workers, as well as the development of clinical protocols for these common disorders. All of which was made possible through the generosity of Aegis Institute, which has contributed over $500,000.” He concluded by stating that, "Once mental health licenses are obtained, Aegis will be reimbursed for services that it is already providing many of its patients at no charge. It will be a nice change."
Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. operates the largest chain of narcotic treatment programs in California.
