AEGIS CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF INDUSTRY DEFINING SUCCESS
8/1/2008 - Canoga Park, California, On August 28th, Aegis celebrated its 10th anniversary. Since beginning operations in August 1998, Aegis has successfully treated tens of thousand of patients, allowing them to improve their health and quality of life. Aegis currently operates 24 Narcotic Treatment Programs (NTP's) in 15 counties, and treats over 5,000 patients a day. In addition, Aegis Institute, Inc. an affiliate operates an Out Patient Drug Free Program (ODF) as well as a PC1000 program in Bakersfield.
Udi Barkai, President & CEO, stated, " We are very proud of the growth and progress we were able to achieve over the last ten years. Despite the many obstacles we encountered over the years, we were successful in pursuing our progressive agenda and ambitious goals." Mr. Barkai noted that “Although Aegis is not a house-hold name, we were able to accomplish a number of breakthrough milestones which included the development of the office of the Ombudsman, the Patient Advisory and Advocacy Group (“PAAG”), the Keys to Recovery Support Groups (“K2R”), the completion of pharmaceutical research study that lead to the approval of Buprenorphine (aka “Suboxone”), the behavioral study with the RAND corporation on 'Peer Pressure,' as well as the study on Reward Systems, and Contingency Management with UCLA “.
Steve Maulhardt, VP for Government relations, acknowledged the numerous campaigns Aegis participated in and sponsored in support of patient rights and higher clinical standards for the NTP’s industry. These campaigns included Prop 36 / SACPA, Counselor’s Certification, NORA, Etc.” He also acknowledged the central and leading role Aegis had in various Trade Organizations, Committees and Working Groups.
Pete Petit, Manager of the Audit and Training Unit for the Department of Quality Assurance and Quality Control concluded, “Aegis had set new standards for the NTP industry. Our Code of Conduct & Ethics, Corporate Compliance Policy, HIPAA Implementation Plan, Training Curriculums, Educational Programs, Internal Audit Procedures, in addition to the Aegis Policies, Procedures, and Protocols we have developed over the years, are all state of art tools, that are unparalleled in this industry.”
