AEGIS COMPLETES DEVELOPMENT ON THE AEGIS INTERACTIVE ADDICTION SEVERITY INDEX (ASI)
12/12/2008 - Canoga Park, California, Udi Barkai, President & C.E.O., is proud to announce the completion of the Aegis Interactive Addiction Severity Index (“ASI”). This new tool is the result of over a year of development, and represents a significant milestone for Aegis and its patients.
Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, stated, "Unlike previous assessment and evaluation protocols, which focused only on additiction and recovery, the ASI introduced a holistic approach to evaluation and treatment, which included a review of seven domains of the patients’ lives. Such domains covered the patient’s medical, psychiatric, nutirion, addiction and substance abuse, social, legal, financial and employment.”
Becky Heinicke, Director of Quality Assurance & Quality Control, added, “The Interactive ASI was developed internally by Aegis, and unlike the previous procedure that required an interview of the patient by a staff clinician, it allows patients to complete the ASI on their own. Various studies have indicated that patients are more honest when no other persons are present. Therefore, the integrity of the information collected in this format is higher than conventional methods.”
The Addiction Severity Index (ASI) was introduced in 1979 as a research tool to evaluate the severity of addiction among recovering addicts and the progress that they were making in treatment. Although originally not intended for clinical purposes, it was subsequently adopted by the several government agencies as a clinical tool for a comprehensive evaluation of patients in alcohol and drug treatment programs.
