AEGIS REPORTS 2009 AS ITS MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR EVER
1/4/2010 - Canoga Park, CA - Udi Barkai, President & C.E.O., is proud to report on the unprecedented strides Aegis Medical Systems, Inc., made through 2009. He stated that, “We started 2009 with significant challenges, but we also had substantial goals to achieve. I am very pleased to be able to say that we far exceeded expectations, and 2009 represents the most remarkable year in Aegis’ 11 year history. In particular, we are proud of the tremendous progress in clinical outcomes that Aegis staff members and patients have achieved. Not too long ago, such outcomes would not have been thought possible.”
He further added, “A few of the most significant Aegis success stories in 2009 include:
· An unparalleled improvement in patient success recovery rates - Aegis saw a reduction in positive UAs from 30% to 20%, opiates from 20% to 13%, and benzodiazepines from 10% to 5%;
· A drastic reduction in medically unadvised discharges that was accomplished through more effective relapse prevention. This resulted in 480 less discharges than in 2008;
· The implementation of counseling protocols for Cognitive / Behavioral Therapy, Brief & Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Contingency Management throughout Aegis’ network;
· The implementation of treatment protocols to address the co-occurring conditions of Aegis patients. These include protocols for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, Grief & Loss;
· Greatly expanded coverage by Regional Clinical Directors, who helped in establishing entirely new levels of clinical standards and improved clinical discretion;
·The development and implementation of protocols for young adults, which includes customized individual and group counseling, as well as support groups for patients and their parents;
·The expansion of Keys to Recovery support groups throughout Aegis’ network of clinics (see www.keys2recovery.com);
· The expansion of the Patient Advisory & Advocacy Group (both on the corporate and individual clinic level) to over 70 members strong. (see www.aegispaag.com)
Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, commented that, “These achievements could not be reached without the extensive research and development that was done in previous years. This success also demonstrates that the Aegis Model, with its unique scope and level of services, is effective in improving the lives of thousands of our patients. Due to our enhanced ‘product,’ Aegis has placed itself at the forefront of the AOD recovery field.”
Steve Maulhardt, Vice President for Government Relations, added, “Most remarkable is the fact that Aegis has been able to achieve such progress despite the difficulties caused by the recession and the California budget crisis. Aegis faced obstacles that included an 11% cut to DMC rates, IOU payments from the State, delays in the processing of contracts and claims. It is a testament to commitment and dedication of Aegis staff members, that our services to patients and the success of our patients has only improved during this difficult time.”
Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. operates the largest chain of narcotic treatment programs in California. Headquartered in Canoga Park, Aegis has 25 clinics throughout the state serving over 5,000 patients per day. For the last eleven years, Aegis has been pursuing a proactive agenda geared towards raising clinical standards and regulatory compliance, through reinforcement of its unique philosophy and organizational culture called the Aegis Model.
