AEGIS PUSHES THE ENVELOPE AGAIN WITH THE LAUNCH OF ONLINE KEYS TO RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUPS
3/7/2010 - Canoga Park, CA- Aegis patients have come to expect Keys to Recovery support groups in all of Aegis’ clinics. Now with the launch of the Online Keys to Recovery Support Groups, Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. is bringing the support group concept to its patients on a 24-hour basis. The new website (http://keys2recovery.com/K2R_Online.htm), which hosts the support groups, was officially launched in early February, and already has a hundred registered users.
Udi Barkai, President & C.E.O., added that, “The online support groups are a first of their kind in our industry. This new resource recognizes the changes in the media consumption habits of the population we serve, and social networking tools now available. These new online groups are especially important considering of the cultural preferences of our young patients, and has the added benefit of mitigating the social anxiety that some of them struggle with.”
Russell I., PAAG Board Member, commented that, “Based on personal experience, as well as my talks with other patients, support groups that are ‘always available’ would be an incredible resource, and would enable us to provide each other with immediate emotional support and advice when it is most needed. Although these groups act similarly to live Keys to Recovery support groups, they have the added benefit of not requiring patients to travel, which provides them maximum flexibility. Additionally, young patients, who are computer savvy find it a very natural way to interact with their peers. Furthermore, patients who struggle with social anxiety find the virtual medium to be less threatening and more accessible.”
According to Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, “Aegis has always had a very strong commitment to patient-centered care. We firmly believe that access to new resources, such as these online support groups, allows certain patients, who might otherwise be overwhelmed with the recovery process, the ability to feel less stress and anxiety. This provides the patients, as well as their care givers, moretime and energy to concentrate on the process of recovery.”
The new online support groups were designed and developed by Aegis’ Department of IT, headed by Kiran Adigopula, and made possible through the generous funding of Aegis Institute, Inc., (a California non-profit corporation).
Aegis Medical Systems, Inc. operates the largest chain of narcotic treatment programs in California.
