FAMILY MEMBERS JOIN KEYS TO RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUPS IN CHICO
6/11/2010 - Canoga Park, CAAegis Medical Systems Chico clinic held its first Family Support Group on May 26, 2010. The meeting was a great success and was attended by 16 parents, spouses and significant others of current patients. This was the first time that the Aegis clinic in Chico has opened its support groups up to family members, spouses and significant others that are positively supporting Aegis patients.
Judson Lea, Chico Clinic Manager, stated that, “The involvement of family members in general, and parents in particular, in the recovery of patients is essential to sustain the successful recovery from addictions to opiates. Unlike our staff members, who are focused on the provision of medical and clinical care, family members can provide patients with support and motivation.”
Arron Hightower, Director of Clinical Services, added that, “Rates of clinical success significantly increase when clinical work is complemented by motivational work. While the first effort focuses on the treatment of the patient, the second nurtures patients’ commitment to their recovery. Without such an ‘engine,’ patients are less likely to be able to stay focused on their long and difficult process of recovery.”
