Canoga Park, California– Stephen Karlton Kop, General Counsel, and Steve Maulhardt, V.P., are proud to announce the approval of AB2136 by both the California Assembly and Senate.
Aegis has co-sponsored the bill in its effort to reform the California AOD treatment system, to allow indigent addicts access to treatment services at subsidized rate, below Drug Medi-Cal (D/MC) rates. Once approved by the Governor, the bill would establish a waiver to the principal of “lower cost and/or charges.”
The bill also prohibits courts or other government officials (e.g., judges, parole and probation officers) from interfering with prescription of medical services and medications, as required by the California Business & Professional Code. The new bill is expected to relieve the growing trend of discrimination against recovering addicts by government officials and the judicial system.
PAAG board member and active patient Steve Day gave a testimonial before the State Assembly Health Committee on April 20th, 2004. Steve Maulhardt, testified before three committees: State Assembly Health Committee on April 20th, 2004; State Assembly Budget Appropriations Committee on May, 19th, 2004; and State Senate Human & Health Services Committee on June 9th, 2004.
