THE P.A.A.G. SETS A PRECEDENT WITH ITS RESOLUTION #6

Canoga Park, California – In its most recent quarterly state-wide board meeting of September 29th, 2004, the Patient Advisory & Advocacy Group (“PAAG”) has endorsed Keys To Recovery (“K2R”) support groups, and approved its Resolution #6, recommending that all newly admitted Aegis patients participate in K2R weekly meetings.

Both Aegis and the PAAG have acknowledged the enormous value of support groups to successful recovery for Aegis’ over 5,000 recovering addicts. “It is already well established that recovery is rarely successful without support systems, and support groups,” stated Steve Day, PAAG Member and Aegis patient. “We hope that the majority of Aegis patients will attend weekly K2R groups, with some dedicated to patients’ special needs, in particular relapse prevention, alcohol cessation, grief, parenting, anxiety and stress disorders, etc.”

K2R was developed as a joint venture between Aegis Medical Systems, Aegis Institute (a non-profit organization) and recovering addicts, in an effort to compensate for the rejection of patients, treated in “Harm Reduction” oriented programs (e.g., NTP’s). These patients are commonly declined by traditional “12-Step” support groups, as well as other entities that follow the “total abstinence” discipline religiously.
